Theatre Arts & Performance Studies

Connie Crawford teaches acting and directing in the Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies. She is the Marsha Z. West Director-in-Residence for Rites and Reason Theatre in the Africana Studies Department. Connie is a resident instructor and director at Perishable Theatre. She develops and directs new performance pieces.

Connie graduated from Vassar College and from The Juilliard School’s Drama Division. She studied with Uta Hagen for two years, Bobby Lewis for one year and The Groundlings for two years. She has performed on and off Broadway, on daytime TV, on Saturday Night Live and in independent films. As a member of the Acting Company, she toured the United States for two years. She is a professional voice artist, recording thousands of books over the years. 

Interests

I work with students of varying ages, backgrounds and abilities. Some of my most rewarding teaching has been with young students with disabilities. I also work with horses to deepen communication between the horse and the human. I have worked with actors and horses to heighten physical awareness and energy control. I am an animal activist and volunteer at local shelters.
