TAPS at the American Society for Theatre Research Conference
PhD student Mariahadessa Tallie won the Helen Krich Chinoy Dissertation Fellowship for her project "Beyond the Rainbow: Black Otherwises and the Work of Ntozake Shange."
TAPS alum Dr. Amy B. Huang '20 Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Theatre, Bates College, received an honorable mention for the Gerland Kahan Scholar's Prize for her essay "Alongside Slavery's Asides: Reverberations of Edward Young's The Revenge" in Theatre Survey 63.1 (2023)
Africana Studies Assistant Professor Lisa Biggs received the Errol Hill Award for the Best Book in African American Theatre and Performance for her book The Healing Stage: Black Women, Incarceration and the Art of Transformation (Ohio State, 2022).
We also had the opportunity to celebrate the publication of books by alumni and faculty, including Dr. Michelle Carriger '13 Ph.D.'s Theatricality of the Closet: Fashion, Performance and Subjectivity Between Victorian Britain and Meiji Japan (Northwestern, 2023), Michelle Castañeda '19 Ph.D's Disappearing Rooms: the Hidden Theatres of Immigration Law (Duke, 2023) and TAPS Assistant Professor Iván Ramos's Unbelonging: Inauthentic Sounds in Mexican and Latinx Aesthetics (NYU, 2023).
