The Laramie Project: Auditions

Performances: December 3 - 6, Leeds Theatre

In the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student, members of the Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie, Wyoming, and conducted hundreds of interviews with its residents. The Laramie Project weaves the voices of neighbors, clergy, police, classmates, and strangers into a mosaic portrait of a town and a country, reckoning with hatred, grief, and the possibility of change.

Audition Slots will be 15 minutes long. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your slot time and sign in. Auditions are open to all Brown University and RISD undergraduate students. Cast members are eligible for TAPS practicum credit.

About the Director
Noah Martinez ‘27 (he/him) is a senior studying Theatre Arts with a particular interest in acting, playwriting, and directing. In addition to acting and directing, Noah is also excited by and finds joy in dance, teaching theatre, and watching grainy, questionably sourced recorded performances of plays with his friends. Noah is thrilled to be directing The Laramie Project and to create a space where we can sit with violence, grief, hatred, and extraordinary humanity, and leave the theatre unwilling to look away.

Casting Note

This production of The Laramie Project will be performed by an ensemble of actors, who will be multi-cast into a number of roles. All actors, excluding the Narrator, will play multiple roles. The characters in The Laramie Project represent a wide range of identities, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that a diverse ensemble strengthens the capacity for storytelling and allows the complexity of Laramie and its community to be represented with greater depth and care. No performer is expected to personally identify with the character(s) they portray
